PAX CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDED

Big Island of Hawaii Region SCCA’s first event of 2009 included presentation of the 2008 PAX Championship awards. Congratulations to the overall 2008 PAX Champion Dave Tohill. Dave Tohill beat the competition in a true “grocery-getter,” a Mazda 3 hatchback, demonstrating that driver skill determines the PAX champion. Dave has his wife to thank for the trophy, as she loaned him her car earlier in the season when his regular ride – a highly modified Subaru WRX STi - gave up the ghost. PAX Champion winners also include: Second place: Jonathan Spiegel; Third place: Jevon Sanborn; Fourth place: Hawke Walleman; and Fifth place: Bob Lindsay. Individual Class winners also received plaques.

2008 was the first year for the Big Island of Hawaii Region SCCA PAX Championship and featured some stiff competition. PAX Championship scoring equalizes differences between cars and classes so all competitors have a chance to win the PAX championship.

After a much appreciated BBQ lunch catered by club member F. Brian Dorr, 27 competitors participated in the first Big Island of Hawaii Region SCCA event of 2009. The Jan. 25 event included an annual tech inspection and two Tune & Test courses. Competitors drove the Tune & Test courses until they dropped! Lots of track time and lots of fun was had by all.

The next Big Island of Hawaii Region Solo event is Sunday, February 15, 2009. The February Solo event is the first event of the 2009 PAX Championship series.
